Couch Monsters

The way to the couch is blocked, so you have to use the portal that you’ve just swallowed.

After a tiring day, there’s nothing better than finally taking a seat on the couch. And that’s exactly how the two main characters in “Couch Monsters” feel, but unfortunately there are a few obstacles in their way (per level). This means that you and your partner will have to take on their roles to solve the puzzles that separate them from their much-desired rest.

As in any puzzle game with jump-and-run elements, you basically run around in a small area, but there’s more to it than that. Both characters have swallowed a portal. If you open your mouth and eat a crate, your teammate will spit it back out immediately. If you drop onto the crate, the velocity is carried over. The concept sounds simple, but offers enough variety for 30 puzzles that take about 3–5 hours of time in total.

The difficulty level is moderate, even though you sometimes need to have good timing. All levels can be skipped, there are useful hints when needed, and you can restart or swap with your partner by pressing a button. “Couch Monsters” is a cozy puzzle game for two good friends who want to spend a relaxing evening on the sofa.

Why you should play it:

• The mechanics create interesting challenges without becoming too abstract.
• Hand-drawn sprites and charming animations create a nice atmosphere.
• The game is well suited for couples or parents with children.
