Bonkies

Build structures in space—with a bunch of chimpanzees equiped with jetpacks and robotic arms.

When a chimpanzee went into outer space in 1961, well before the first human, no one would have guessed that these intelligent animals would one day play a major role in intergalactic construction projects. However, in “Bonkies” a company called Bonkie Corp. equips apes with rocket packs and oversized robotic arms to do just that.

Together with up to three friends, you slip into the role of the cuddly animals and complete building assignments. In each level, an outline for a structure is provided. With your robot arm, you grab blocks that are lying around and carefully place them at the designated spot. The arm can be stretched in four directions and even stabilised to some extent by holding the respective button.

Only the outer shape is specified, so you have to experiment to find the right solution. The positioning of the robot arm at the side, the bumpy movement in microgravity and the limited space make manoeuvring a real challenge. Without coordination, your construction projects will quickly fail, especially since larger blocks can only be lifted together.

“Bonkies” is a cheerful, cooperative puzzle game for 2–4 players. The game mechanics are interesting, the menus and the level structure seem well thought out—and the monkeys are just adorable!

Why you should play it:

• The level of difficulty is comfortable: Most levels can be solved in the first attempt, even with two players.
• Each of the 6 available planets offers a variety of challenges. New characters can be unlocked by beating time limits.
• With its colorful design and quirky characters, the game is well suited for families.

Most couch co-op games require one gamepad per player (DualShock 4, DualSense, Nintendo Switch Pro Controller etc.), but sometimes you can share gamepads (PS5, XBOX Series X/S), use a single Joy Con (Switch) or let at least one person utilize a keyboard (PC). Please note: We can’t guarantee that your specific setup works with “Bonkies”.

Remote Play Together (Steam) and SharePlay (PSN) allow you to share local multiplayer games with friends over the internet. Only the host needs to own the game. Remote Play Together is free. SharePlay requires a paid PSN subscription and is limited to 60 minutes per session and a maximum of 2 players.
