“Woodle Tree 2: Deluxe” is a 3D platformer that reminds us of titles like “Super Mario 64”, both in terms of gameplay and visuals. In the role of a small tree trunk named Woodle, you run, hop and slide through a surprisingly large world that becomes fully accessible after a short introduction. Your goal is to fight the evil that wants to spread over nature.

In order to go on an adventure with your friends, multiple controllers must be connected at the start of the game. Your companions will have the same abilities as the main character. However, only the first player can move the camera, so the other characters have to stay in close proximity. This can easily become confusing with 3–4 people, which is why we feel 2 players is optimal.

In terms of visual quality and creative level design, “Woodle Tree 2: Deluxe” (of course) doesn’t come close to recent 3D platformers from Nintendo—but (to be fair) it doesn’t have to. We were quite satisfied by its pleasantly calm atmosphere, solid gameplay mechanics and a friendly open world. If you’re looking for a game to enjoy with your family, this might be a good choice.

Why you should play it:

• The moderate difficulty and friendly atmosphere make the game well suited for children.
• An open game world with cuddly characters and many collectibles invites you to spend some time exploring.

Remote Play Together (Steam) and SharePlay (PSN) allow you to share local multiplayer games with friends over the internet. Only the host needs to own the game. Remote Play Together is free. SharePlay requires a paid PSN subscription and is limited to 60 minutes per session and a maximum of 2 players.
